FAQ regarding PLAN testing through YEAH--and related topics

  • This YEAH sponsored test administration is available to any home educated student in 10th grade.  Many school districts also offer this test and home educated students may be able to test in their home districts if our dates are not convenient (not all high schools allow home educated students to take the PLAN with them).

  • Dates for Fall 2011 have been scheduled: See DATES below.  YEAH and YEAH Academy member discounted fees apply.

  • Do you need to test? See testing guidelines.

  • How do I pay and register?  Payment and registration is now online. Payment & Registration form.

  • Can I take the PLAN more than once in the same school year?  No.  Unlike the ACT, there is only one version of the PLAN test made each school year.  If the student were to take it more than once, s/he would be taking the very same test and the scores would not be valid.

  • What are other testing options options?

    • If your student needs to take a text for practice only, consider taking a free test from one of the test preparation companies such as Kaplan (www.kaplan.com) or Princeton Review (www.princetonreview.com).  NOTE: These practice tests do NOT count for either PSEO or the annual test requirement for homeschooling families.

    • If your student needs a college test for application to PSEO, 4 options are generally accepted: PLAN, PSAT (given at local high schools in mid-October), ACT  (act.org) or the SAT (collegeboard.com).

  • DATES & TIMES

    • 2 days: November TBD (Thursday) and TBD (Friday) 2012. Priority will be given to students in 10th & 11th grades who need the exam for PSEO admission for fall 2013

    • 2 session options each day:

      • Morning (9:00-12:30)

      • Afternoon (1:00-4:30)

  • When does the student need to arrive? Students need to arrive 15 minutes early to check in and testing begins promptly at the above times.

  • LOCATION: Bethany Baptist Church, 2025 Skillman Avenue West, Roseville

    • Directions: off Highway 36, south on Cleveland about 1/4 mile.  Church is on the northeast corner of Cleveland Ave. and Skillman Ave.

    • Site of The Academy classes

  • COST:  Unlike schools, which only have to pay for scoring, YEAH has to cover administration, building, mailing and supplies costs.  Thus, our fees reflect these costs.

    • $20.00 for YEAH members (prepaid with registration; memberships will be verified)
    • $25.00  for non-YEAH members (prepaid with registration)
  • DEADLINE: Registration for the Fall 2012 testing will be available on October 1, 2012 and is filled as registrations arrive! There is limited space so register early so that you get your preferred date and time.

  • TO BRING: Students should bring with them to take the test

    • at least two sharpened #2 pencils and erasers,
    • a calculator if they want to use it for the math portion of the test.
    • There will be one break and students can bring water and/or a snack.
    • CELL PHONES ARE NOT ALLOWED AND MAY NOT BE USED AS A CALCULATOR OR TIMEPIECE.

WHAT IS THE PLAN TEST?

  • *The PLAN is made by the ACT organization especially for 10th graders so they that can practice taking the ACT. Students in 9th grade and 11th grade may also benefit from the test experience and practice.  Because it is a practice test, no preparation is necessary.  However, students can take a practice test to learn the format of the test. (http://www.actstudent.org/plan/tests/index.html)

  • YEAH Academy students will have theirs delivered to their YEAH Academy personal family file folder; all others will be mailed to your home.  Each student will get a predicted ACT score and career information. This is a norm-referenced standardized test and can be used in most school districts as the annual required test.

  • Most colleges will also allow this test to be submitted in the PSEO application, including North Central University and Northwestern College.

  • For more information on the test go to the ACT website: (http://www.act.org/plan/index.html)

  • Linda López, who will be administering the test for YEAH, has experience giving the PLAN, SAT, and ACT in group settings. Contact her at yeahservices@ouryeah.org or through her website: www.homeschoolguidance.net
